Week 11 - Hell's Bells

The DFT crew invaded Tempe for the weekend battle royale between my Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the ASU Sun Devils, AKA the Saints versus Satan Worshippers. Tempe is a far cry weather wise from the winter conditions the Tailgate experienced last weekend in Pullman. With temperatures forecasted to be in the high 80’s I packed shorts, t shirts, sun screen and a giant thirst for more college football. The Major joined me again along with Tailgate Tony Seber AKA Pauley Walnuts and Jeffery “Dahmer” Porter. We joined Head Sun Devil Kevin O’Connor and his crew of 1981 ASU Alums. This would be my 50th Division 1A stadium that I attended a game at. My realistic goal is to hit what I consider the top 100, as I deem many of the 128 D1A stadiums as irrelevant (Pro stadiums, domes, too far from campus, too new to D1A). It is a Marathon, not a sprint as I hit repeat stadiums every year as well. So, I am half way there and living on a prayer according to Mrs. Tailgate.
On Friday afternoon, Kevin arranged for us to get a tour of Tillman’s Tunnel named after ASU Alum and American Hero Pat Tillman. Pat was an undersized overachieving linebacker who earned 2nd team All American honors and scholastic All American accolades during his four years in Tempe. He went on to play in the NFL and in 2002 he turned downed a lucrative contract to enlist in the Army and go fight the dirt bags in the Middle East. As with everything Pat did, he excelled in the Army and earned his Ranger tab. While on patrol in Afghanistan, his unit ran into an ambush and Pat paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country. It was determined later on that a cover up took place and Pat was actually struck down by what is called friendly fire (the biggest oxymoron in the Military as there is nothing friendly about taking on lead from anyone). It was quite an honor to see and experience the impact that Pat had on ASU. We also toured the ASU Hall of Fame room.

It was an honor to walk through Tillman's Tunnel.
On Friday night Kevin invited me and my crew to sync up with his gang on the famous Mill Ave in Tempe. We misunderstood him and thought he had encouraged us to stay at Jeff’s house and watch the movie We Are the Millers. So, we all put on our snuggies, curled up on the couch and ate our individual quarts of ice cream and burned gazes into the TV Screen watching this epic flick. Of course we were called soft, weak, other unspeakable names, and Bieber for this miscommunication, but we did get to watch that Jennifer Anniston scene about a dozen times.
Our Friday night Pre game at Jeff's house.
Saturday AM, Jeff’s brother in law Shannon volunteered to be our DD for the day and drove us over to the Tailgate spot in the north lot right next to the entrance of Sun Devil stadium. Along with the Major’s “Bawstun Pops” Bloody Marys, grub was provided by Portellos of Chicago fame. Italian beef sandwiches, Italian sausages and hot dogs along with many coolers chock full of beverages.  In a small world incident, one of Kevin’s classmates is Chris Dyrek who owns a Cable Company along with his business partner Eric Jackson. Both were at our tailgate. So as long as they buy some gear from me I can potentially call this a business outing. If not, I now have incriminating pics of you both. Two of Kevin’s posse live in Wisconsin and we have arranged a Tailgate in 2016 at Camp Randall in Madison. They have promised to teach me the Jump Around. Also present was Dennis Fitzgibbons, QB at Columbia University from 1982 -1986. I shared stories of my Pops playing days at Columbia. See the Link for the story I wrote in 2010:  (http://dantailgate.blogspot.com/2010/10/week-8-recap-and-story-of-one-eyed.html). The current QB at Columbia is Stanford transfer Brett Nottingham who graduated with my oldest from High School. Many of the younger crowd in our tailgate sported Notre Dame Schwagg including the son of John Belushi.

Tempe has not had this much excitement for a game since the days when Jake Plummer ran the show here in the mid - 90s. We entered sold out Sun Devil stadium for the 1:30 kickoff with temps in the high 80’s and the fan base at a fever pitch. Hence the nickname the Inferno or House of Hell was reinforced. With ASU coming in with the #9 ranking and Notre Dame #10, this game had significant meaning on the national playoff scene. The student section was as large and fired up as any I have seen. The band was cranking out tunes and fireworks were going off. Sun Devil Stadium has quite the picturesque setting as it is nestled between two small mountain peaks. Current seating capacity is around 70,000. The ASU Athletics Department did an excellent job in recognizing Active Duty and Veteran Military members throughout the game as it was Military Appreciation Day at Sun Devil. The only complaint I have is with such a large band, why do the stadium PA people blare piped in music throughout the game, especially AC DC’s Hells Bells? This is college, not NFL and you are a big time program. Use your band more effectively. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, there was also the skinny meth head obnoxious Stain who couldn’t even spell ASU sitting in front of me that I wanted to shove down the stairs a few times. Other than that it was a great College game day environment.

The Pride of the Southwest
The game started out with ND taking a 3-0 lead. Then the Sun Devils caught fire fueled by four turnovers by Irish QB Everett Golston, ASU scored 34 unanswered points. The Devil’s crowd was ecstatic. I on the other hand, was not. My phone was blowing up with Texts from ND fans and haters alike asking if I was suicidal. Notre Dame finished the half by scoring their first TD of the day narrowing the deficit to 24. The second half opened with ND putting together a beautiful drive that ended in another turnover in the red zone. Then the unimaginable happened, ND stopped turning the ball over and their D shut down the Taylor Kelly led offense. ND scored 21 unanswered points to close the ASU lead to 3. Just when it looked like ND would take control of the match, Taylor Kelly drove the Devils down the field for a Touchdown. Notre Dame got the ball and started marching down the field until Corey Robinson, son of the Admiral bobbled a pass into the arms of an ASU defender who streaked 54 yards for a devastating score.  The ASU lead was now an insurmountable 17 points with just minutes to go. The Sun Devils would score once more to put double nickels on the Irish for a 55 -31 score. I along with the other Irish fans left the stadium feeling like a run over skunk on a country road. Hats off to the Sun Devils for a strong win.

And so the Devil torments me after the loss

To the victor goes the spoils
Around the Country – ESPN had dubbed this weekend as Separation Saturday with six games featuring teams that were both ranked in the AP top 25. In those games, #6 TCU proved it is no fluke by pounding out a 41- 20 win over #7 Kansas State at Amon Carter in Fort Worth. LSU lost to itself and gave Bama an OT win in Death Valley at night. A 15 yard unsportsmanlike flag on the Tide five yard line toward the end of regulation kept LSU out of the end zone and a kickoff out of bounds gave Bama an extra 15 yards on their ensuing possession. Tide had 20, Tigers 13.  In the Night game in the Big Ten, Ohio State out pointed their opponent Michigan State in East Lansing 49-37. Urban celebrated with warm Pizza. My nephew a junior at MSU, nearly earned Bieber honors this week for not going to Gameday and waving the DFT banner. I am having my lawyers redraft my last will and testament. Oregon took top bill in Utah running away from the UTES 51-27. In Norman, Oklahoma, the Sooners became the Laters as the Baylor Bears said see you later Boomer Sooner with a resounding 48-14 massacre.  Two big upsets on the day had Texas A&M return from the dead and Shock War Damn Eagle in Jordan Hare and the Longhorns resurrected from the ashes to topple the Mountaineers. In FCS action, North Dakota State lost for the first time in 33 games to Northern Iowa.
Bieber Award – Much consideration was given to awarding Ole Miss and Mississippi State the weekly honors with their non- defensible choice of patsy opponents during the thick of the playoff race. Shame on you both, but there was someone else whose action was more Bieberesque than yours: It seems as though Utah’s Kaelin Clay, inspired by his idol Douchean Jackson did the unthinkable against Oregon. In the 2nd Quarter with the teams battling for momentum, Clay caught a long strike in stride and was on his way to what appeared to be a 75 yard score. However, the rule clearly states that the ball must cross the plain of the goal line. Young Mr. Clay decided to showboat and drop the ball a good yard and a half short of paydirt. A heads up Duck player picked up the ball and ran 99 yards the other way for a Duck score. The infraction was bad enough for Bieber potential, yet it was the idiotic celebration dancing that young Clay did in the back of the end zone with two other moronic teammates while Oregon was running the other way for six that sealed his fate.  You may not have scored on that play little Clay, however you win the Bieber award on this great day!

Salute to our heroes – With Veterans Day this Tuesday I would like to give a shout out to all Active Duty Service Members and Veterans. I would like to give a special nod of respect to Clemson Tiger football player and War Veteran Daniel Rodriguez. His book is called Rise and can be purchased on Amazon (of course through the link in the upper left of this blog: http://www.amazon.com/Rise-Soldier-Dream-Promise- Kept/dp/0544365607/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1415580173&sr=1-1&keywords=rise+by+daniel+rodriguez . Additionally, active duty Navy Seal Tom Hruby saw his first action of the year for the Northwestern Wildcats. Here is the link to his story: http://patch.com/illinois/evanston/33-year-old-active-duty-navy-seal-plays-his-first-college-football-game-0?utm_source=newsletter-daily&utm_medium=email&utm_term=good%20news&utm_campaign=newsletter&utm_content=article-national
Next week, Mr. and Mrs. DFT will join the Kernan family at Hampden Sydney College in Virginia for their son Joey’s final home game against arch Rival Randolph Macon in what is simply referred to as “The Game”.  This will be my first Division III game I have been to since my days at Frostburg State in the 80s.

Week 10 - From The Halls of Montezuma

When plans fell apart for the annual Men of Laurelglen San Jose State Tailgate this weekend, the Tailgate Travel Department scoured the schedule seeking a convenient venue for DFT to enjoy the weekend action. It was determined that fellow CFB addict and USC diehard Major Mark  Rodrick was heading to Pullman, WA for the USC – Wazoo game. The Major having been a 20 year Marine Helo pilot and Gulf War 1 Veteran was seeking a wingman to accomplish this mission. I was an easy target so off we went to conquer the area of Eastern Washington known as The Palouse. It’s not easy for an Army guy who is a Notre Dame fan to tolerate a Marine /USC fan, but somehow our mutual addiction for college football makes it work for us.

A tribute to my Co Pilot for the weekend

We swooped into Spokane semi International airport and began to deploy south. But first we made a pit stop at the spectacle that is known as the “Red Inferno”, the football field at FCS power Eastern Washington University in Cheney, WA. After a few Selfies, Instagrams , facebook posts, Tweets and snap chats from the burning turf, we continued on our primary mission; Pullman, WA.

DFT hits the red inferno

Once on campus we reconned the recently renovated Martin Stadium, the brand new football building, and the RV lots that were active already pre gaming for Saturday.

For billeting, a DFT first occurred as we took up quarters through an organization called Bed Finders where you rent rooms out of a local resident’s house. Not knowing who our host would be, we were not sure if we would be axe murdered during the night or become a re-creation of the Stephen King movie Misery when Kathy Bates held James Caan hostage and tortured him with brutality. Given that it was Halloween night, anything was possible. So the good Major and I devised a tactical plan to take shifts pulling guard duty throughout the night with a mop as our weapon of choice if we felt it was needed. However, that was not the case as Bonnie, a grandmother of 4 and a local iconic school teacher took us in and made us feel like it was our home.
This was not what happened but it was imagined
We proceeded to sample the finest food and spirits that Pullman has to offer on a Halloween Friday night. We first dropped anchor in the legendary Campus bar called the Coug near Fraternity row.  After dining on some killer Coug burgers for chow and tasting several pints, we found ourselves in a townie pub called My Office until we called no quarter. When will I ever learn? The bivouac that evening at Camp Bonnie was uneventful.
On game day, after an All American breakfast prepared by Bonnie, we low crawled over to Campus for pre-game festivities including a return to the Coug for Bacon infused Bloody Marys.

Breakfast of Champions
We then wandered over to the Field House next to Martin Stadium for an indoor tailgate due to the inclement weather for these soft California boys. The Cougar Marching Band and Cheerleaders graced us with their presence as did Assistant AD John Johnson.

Just a harmless old dude with the Coug Cheerleaders

True CFBaholics
Martin Stadium, named after a former Governor of Washington is one of those awesome mid-size venues nestled right in the middle of campus. There is nothing better to me than a setting like this with the campus surrounding the magical castle on football Saturdays. Martin just underwent a renovation that added new luxury suites and a beautiful football complex in the South End Zone. This was a quintessential cool, wet, foggy, gray Saturday in the Northwest providing us a great backdrop for some real college football weather. Okay, you’re right I am a soft Californian and would prefer the sunshine and warmth of the south, but not every weekend can be like that.

Wazoo is coached by former TTU head man Mike Leach and are in the process of turning around a program that had struggled mightily since the departure of Coach Mike “Roll Tide” Price in the early 2000’s.  Washington State has produced a slew of NFL QB’s including Drew Bledsoe, Mark Rypien, Jeff Tuel and Ryan “Bieber” Leaf. They have had periods of success throughout time and have been much more competitive under Leach, the Ole Pirate the past two years. The Coug faithful had been packing the 40,000 seat Martin all year, but on this nasty day, it was only about half full at game time. Wazoo Starting QB Connor Halliday leads the nation in passing yards and has posed problems for most defenses he has faced all year. However, on this cold wet day, the Trojans behind All American receiver Nelson Agholar were too much for Wazoo to handle. Along with Agohlar’s spectacular day, the Cougs lost Halladay to a leg injury early in the match. USC won going away 44 -17. We stayed with the other 100 brave souls or morons to the bitter end.
Not many fans left by the 4th Quarter
We were hoping to pull a double header as the University of Idaho, a mere 8 miles away in Moscow had a home game as well. But as fate would have it, the games were only 30 minutes apart. Not enough time to do it effectively so we aborted that mission.
Around the Country – Is Jameis Winston the new Captain Comeback? Say or think what you will about the kid, but in the second half of so many games this year, he has been unbelievable. Clearly FSU is not as talented as they were last year and they are squeaking by instead of demolishing teams. Still they find a way to win. I predicted them to lose on Thursday night but they found a way to come from 21 down to defeat the gray clad Louisville Cardinals at Papa John Stadium. Cardinal Coach Bobby Petrino was spotted riding off on his Harley with his Assistant after the presser. Add insult to injury for Ole Miss as they not only lost to Auburn on an apparent touchdown that was fumbled into the end zone, they lost their All American receiver Laquan Treadwell to a gruesome leg injury on that same play. In Morgantown, WV, the fans got their money’s worth in a great battle that had TCU pull out the victory with a game winning kick as time expired. I suppose it’s okay as there was nothing left to burn in Morganhole after last week anyway. Notre Dame was able to outlast a pesky Navy squad at Fedex Field and ASU secured the W over the Utes in OT to set up an epic matchup with the Irish in Tempe next week. We will be there. Oregon continues their impressive play by getting the Stanford Tree Monkey off their back. The Bruins corralled the Wildcats in the Rose bowl for a badly needed win. In the game I originally intended to be at, SJSU was knocked off by CSU at Spartan stadium 38 -31. Will Muschamp survives to coach another day as the Gators upset the Dawgs at the World’s largest outdoor cocktail party in Jacksonville. #1Mississpi State played down to the level of their opponent and barely held on to beat a bad Arkansas team 17-10. I will make the controversial proclamation now that the top half of the Big 12 (TCU, Baylor, KSU, OU and WVU) and the Pac 12 South plus Oregon are as good a conference right now as the more heralded SEC West. Yeah that’s right, I can say this as I am conference agnostic and enjoy teams from everywhere. I also believe Michigan State right now is as good as any team in the country. So I encourage you all to take your conference blinders off and see the entire field in front of you. It is pretty liberating to do so I must say.

Bieber Award - The Trill is gone in Bryan College Station as self - proclaimed Kenny “Trill” Hill was benched in favor of a guy who did not give himself a nickname at Texas A&M. Kenny has been on the Bieber watch list all season ever since he nicknamed himself and filed for a trademark on his nickname. In most courts of public opinion, that in itself is offensive enough to earn the Biebs honors. How self-aggrandizing is that?  To top it off, it turns out Kenny Trill has done Zil lately. Moreover, Mr. Trill did something even more egregious to find himself suspended for two games by coach Sumlin. Details have not been released yet as to what the infraction was, but we do know that Kenny Trill Hill is this week’s Bieber award winner.

Next Week - The Tailgate will meet up in Tempe with the Sunned Devil hizzelf, Kevin “OC” O’Connor and his band of Satan worshippers while I will be representing for the Catholics. There is an outside chance we will make the drive to Tucson for the UoA night game against Colorado. That will be a game time decision.
PS. If you are heading to College Game day and want to get pics with the DFT banner let me know and I will mail it to you. I now have two flags courtesy of BLR Signs.

Happy Tailgating!

Week 9 - Good Ole Rocky Top

My new favorite song
In the summer of 1984 as a young ROTC Cadet at Fort Knox, KY, I was introduced to the song “Rocky Top” by two fellow Cadets in my barracks, both students at Tennessee. In fact, I think they even made up marching cadences to Rocky Top a la Bill Murray in Stripes. Some thirty years later, that song still haunts my medulla oblongata as I will start humming it for no apparent reason at very inopportune times. On this picture perfect autumn weekend in Eastern Tennessee, I felt privileged and honored to be amongst the 100,000 + Orange revelers to hum Rocky Top and welcome back one of the Tailgate’s all time favorites to the checkered end zone: Mr. Lane Kiffin, former head coach here. For those of you that don’t remember, Young Lane was hired to be the Head Coach back in 2009. After one year, he left the Volunteer Nation hung out to dry so he could chase the glamour and glitter of Hollywood and return to USC as their head ball coach. Needless to say, the name Kiffin was less popular than the name Bin Laden in the Smoky Mountain State. Things did not work out so well in LA for the disciple of Pete the Cheat, and Lil Lane was spotted in line at a soup kitchen. Saban Clause, AKA St. Nick did a charitable thing and hired the unemployed boy genius as his OC prior to this season. And of course he would be greeted with a very warm welcome inside the imposing Neyland Stadium when the Tide rolled onto the field.
This weekend would be a reunion with my high school crew, SVHS class of 1981. Lodgings were provided by Classmate Tennessee Tony Pifer in his five star cabin in the woods. However to get to the cabin, one must travel through places that could be rift with moonshiners, cloggers, snake healers, and toothless banjo strummers. The hair on my neck stood up on alert as we made our way through the Holler. We were also joined by Maryland Mike McCabe and the good Doctor himself, Alabama Al and his family. After spending Friday night recalling just how great and cool we were 35 years prior and who could beat who up, we were ready for game day in Knoxville on Saturday. We headed to the Palace on the river known as Neyland Stadium for a 1:30 PM Tailgate party hosted by Doctor Eddie Hockaday and his wife Connie. Neyland Stadium is named after legendary Tennessee coach General Robert Neyland. Neyland was the Vols coach from 1926 -1952 with a hiatus to go serve his country in the CBI Theater during WWII. This has added meaning to me as my Father served as an Army Air Corps Officer in Burma and India during the big one. General Neyland also coached the Vols to four National Championships. With UT being a city school, tailgating space is at a premium with the orange clad fanatics setting up wherever possible. The Hockaday party was located on the top deck of the parking garage just next to the stadium with a view of the river down below. In the river there is a phenomena dating back almost 50 years called “Boatgating”. This is an event where boat owners from around Tennessee lash up together for an all day Tailgate on the water. Some of the larger boats even had live music, dancing girls and congressional hearings for entertainment. This is one of the top bucket list events to witness in all of college football. Our Tailgate consisted of a mixture of Vol and Tide families and friends. In our walkabout we found a camera man filming a sign attached to a microphone that said “What would you tell Lane Kiffin?” Many a warm hearted Vol fan stepped up to the Mic and let little Lane know they were just so ecstatic to see him again. We found the Tailgate crowd at UT to be spirited but mostly respectful.

Boatgating on the Banks of the river.
As a cruel Joke, Alabama Al stuck us non partisan so called friends in the Alabama section of the stadium in the upper tier of this massive structure. Let’s just say if there was a tornado touching down in Tennessee it would have torched our seats for several reasons. This was not the same polite clientele we tailgated with during the afternoon. The Vol Nation filled the stadium for the 7:30 kickoff cloaked in their bright Orange attire accompanied with their all day tailgate glo. The Pride of The Southland UT Marching band took the field and formed a giant letter T. Smokey the Blue Tick Hound mascot led the Team out onto the field through the giant T to the approval of the Orange people. The Pride belted out Rocky Top for the first of several hundred times of the night. The sellout crowd of 102,455 fans was singing in unison at the top of their lungs. With all the pageantry and nighttime magic that Knoxville has presented so many times, the fans expected a great effort out of their underdog Vols.  Coach “Sergeant Carter” from Gomer Pyle (AKA Butch Jones) was fired up as well.

Separated at Birth - Sgt Carter and Butchy

Nonetheless, Alabama sucked the rarified air out of the behemoth bowl before the first quarter ended. Apparently, Lane and Nick drafted up their own script for how Lane’s return to Neyland would be. Bama ended the first set with a 20 - 0 lead spearheaded by spectacular play from All American Amari Cooper and QB Blake Sims and a stout D. LK was seen running up and down the sideline in his visor encouraging his boyz to show em who the boss is. Bama scored again to start the second quarter before Tennessee had decided to give us our money’s worth. From that point on, UT outplayed Alabama by outscoring the Tide 20 - 7. But as higher math will learn ya, 27+7 is still more than 20. I will say that even though Tennessee has seen better days, the atmosphere, passion and traditions that the Vol Nation brings to game day is amongst the best in the country. This is a program that claims six national titles throughout time. They will rise again much to the chagrin of the rest of the SEC.
The Grandiose Neyland  Stadium with the unmistakable checkered End Zones

As an added bonus, I was also able to catch the Thursday night ESPN game in Blacksburg, VA between The VA Tech Hokies and the Hurricanes from the U. I met up with my College buddy and Rugby Teammate Terry Kernan who drove in from D.C. to join me because he heard I would score us some free turkey legs. After illegally parking at the Holiday Inn across from Campus we snuck on their shuttle bus that took us to campus. We learned the first stop was the Tailgate party sponsored by the Holiday Inn. So what are two grown men to do when presented with an opportunity to crash a party, eat someone else’s food, drink their beer and insult the guests? You answered correctly if you said “tailgate crash”. We also met up with Terry’s friend John Malone at his Beergate in Lot 1 along with his Fraternity crew that graduated from VT in 1983. They have been doing a Thursday night game reunion annually in Blacksburg with guys coming in from different parts of the country for 30 years. The Hokie faithful have grown restless since their week two upset of Ohio State who at the time was ranked #4 in the country. Since that time VT has been on a downward spiral. Some even have spoken the unspeakable and are calling for legendary Coach Frank Beamer’s resignation.
John Malone and Terry with me at the Beergate.

I'm not a Tailgater but I did crash a Holiday Inn Tailgate last night.
Thursday night games at VA Tech are legendary. The Hokie fans are as passionate as any and pack the 65,000 seat Lane Stadium for home games and provide as hostile an atmosphere for opposing teams to play in as I have seen. They have a ritual when the team takes the field before the game where the whole stadium bounces up and down to Metallica’s “Enter Sandman”. The crowd erupts and the players stream out on to the field and fireworks go off beyond the south end zone.

Enter Sandman
VA Tech is also one of only two non-military colleges that have a Corps of Cadets. They packed the south end zone while the students and the Marching Band occupy the North. Another unique feature at Lane is hearing a Turkey gobble over the PA system to get the fans fired up throughout the game. However all of the pageantry and non game activity was the most action the Hokies would produce on this night. Miami’s Duke Johnson ran roughshod over VT for 250 yards and 2 TDs on the night as Miami feasted on the Hokies 30 - 6. Regardless, this venue still provided an awesome week night game atmosphere.

Around the Country – Despite what ESPN would have you believe, there is more to CFB than the SEC West. That is why you come to DFT for your information. That being said, LSU proved once again that Death Valley is the place where not only opposing team’s dreams come to die, but national championship aspirations also meet the same fate. Ole Miss found this out the hard way Saturday night as they came into Baton Rouge undefeated and walked out with a blemish on their record. The Hat (Coach Miles) asked the Rebs “how’s that grass taste boys?”  The TCU Horned Frogs Basketball squad beat up on the Texas Tech Red Raiders Football squad 82 - 27. And it pains me to say that our beloved Trojans from USC dropped another one to Utah 24 - 21. Mark Dantoni put one more stake in Big Brady Hoke’s inevitable fate as Sparty won Big against Big Brother Michigan in the Big House 35 - 11.
Bieber Award – After consulting with my Bieber committee we decided it was a light week in bad Biebhavior. However if we go back to last Saturday after WVU upset Baylor, I think we found our winner. You see, it is normal behavior in Morgantown, WV to burn couches after a big Mountaineer victory. I am not sure why, other than maybe them boyz drop their fatties on their moonshine soaked couches and voila, you have your instant heat source all by accident. Nothing new, right? Well, after the Baylor win there must have been extra moonshine and bulletproof liquid courage as the hillbillies burned everything in their path including the traditional couches, pulled down lamp poles and rioted like anarchists. The MOTO PO PO had to be brought in to get the town under control to calm the LA Laker fans down. Reports indicated that the town looked no different the next day then it normally does. The ironic part is past Bieber Winner the bow tied smug dork Gordon Gee, former Chancellor at Ohio State now the Cheese at WVU had to lecture the students on their unsportsmanlike behavior. So to the fans of WVU, not only do you get College Gameday next week, you are this week’s winner of the vaunted Bieber Award!
Next Week - The Tailgate will make its way to the Palouse for the first time to watch Wazoo host USC, I will be joined by USC die hard Major Mark Rodrick, USMC (R) and he is making me sit with the USC section. I think I will wear my Notre Dame Schwag.
Happy Tailgating!
