2017 Pre Season Primer

That big whooshing sound you hear is not “Lil Kim” sending Nukes my way, instead it is me breathing a sigh of relief that the off season is over and the college football season is upon us! Welcome back DFT Nation to the 2017 college football and tailgating season. We have set forth another ambitious schedule of venues to invade once again with several epic weekends on the agenda. With my youngest starting high school and cheering under the lights on Friday Night, it was requested that I cut back on away games this season. With that, I have made the concerted effort to reduce my original schedule of 20 games to 19. I was told this was akin to when the government says they are cutting significant waste. I don’t get it, as this is a major sacrifice on my part.

An exciting development in the off season took place as I have embarked on starting a side business along with Joe Rogers called Tailgate Connect. Much like Uber and Airbnb, Tailgate connect will utilize the personal space sharing philosophy of “collaborative consumption” and connect tailgaters across the country. Once again, the coaching carousel has produced many changes with faces likes Stoops and Freeze gone and names like Fleck and Strong waving new flags. Will the Big Ten be perceived as the strongest conference this year or will the SEC recapture that moniker? Who will be the Cinderella story like Western Michigan was last year? How many Bieber awardees will also be called Felons? Will I have to take a mid-season break from exhaustion only to be called out by fellow DFTers?

Off Season Bieber – As always, no shortage of Bieberites to choose from. However, as much as I love Ole Miss it is hard to ignore Hugh Freeze and his transgressions. It is not the fact that he called Destiny at Mons Venus in Tampa, it’s that he did it from his own phone. In the words of Napoleon Dynamite “YOU IDIOT!”. This is what assistant coaches are for. You use their phones and get them in trouble. It was a dead giveaway when Destiny had you plugged into her phone under the name “Tastee Freeze”. Equally egregious was the little detritus of life from Mississippi State that ratted you out. I am sure this guy lives a squeaky-clean life and would pass any James Comey investigation thrown his way. Son you are now the second most hated man in Mississippi after Ulysses S Grant.

DFT

I live for college football weekends. I love tailgating before and after games and absorbing the atmosphere and traditions of the host school. I am on a quest to see a game in every "real" stadium for D1A football in the country and attend as many games and Tailgates as I can. It is more fun to accomplish this with friends and family, thus the DFT Nation has grown far and wide over the last 15 years. I have also added lower Division schools as part of my annual mix. Each Season, I will travel the country and attend numerous games in college stadiums that I have not previously been to and take in the whole experience and blog about it.

I also like to hear about your game day experiences each week. But it is not just about attending different stadiums, our Tailgate has many repeat locations each year for traditional games that are just plain fun like Army- Navy. Last but not least, I am a college football polygamist. Born a Notre Dame fan, Big OU Sooners and Boise State fan. And of course I root on Army and my Alma Mater Frostburg State. Nonetheless, I love all college football and there is no such thing as a bad game.
